Coyote Songs

MANY OF US have awakened in the middle of the night to the sound of Coyotes howling and yipping somewhere nearby. On occasion it seems there must be dozens of them with all the voices in unison. By using an infrared trail camera we've been lucky to catch this particular animal as it routinely walks the trail along the eastern edge of the cornfield by the dog park. I recently read that Eastern Coyotes are a genetic mix of wolves and coyotes. The Coyotes in the east are larger than their western counterparts no doubt due to the cross-breeding with the larger wolves. Looking at this animal it's not hard to see. The neck and body are thicker, and the ears are shorter, both characteristics more typical of wolves.
